Notes for Cathair Mar , King of Leinster
Notes:
Kelley's "The Ancestry of Eve of Leinster" (The Genealogist, 1980) I:1.
Kelley comments:
. "Chronologically he belongs to the 4th century A.D. O'Rahilly ("Early Irish History & Mythology") regards him as an ancestor deity whose name is a borrowing into Goidelic of an Ivernic derivative of Celtic *Catu-tegernos, 'Battle Lord'. While I have no objection to this derivation of the name, I see no reason to suppose that Cathair was not historical." . The king lists of Irish Monarchs identify him as the immediate predecessor of CONN (RIN 2645), but this is chronologically impossible.
